An appreciation of “The Rain –a mock film review” (written by M.C. Balakrishnan)

By Mr. Premchand. , Medical College, Calicut.

Mr. Balakrishnan's mock review on rain is designed with lively imagination ornated by the decorous choice of words and powerful imagery. The scope of the story infusing various elements of the nature, evolving finely to the form of a beautiful film is praise worthy. It evokes curiosity to explore the unexplored prospects implied by the creative imagination of the writer.

The portrayal of the birth of Rain as the painful tears of the cloud, under the consolation of her mighty father (the mountain), is unique. The typical masculine nature attributed to the wind, is to be commended. There is vitality and flushing greenery throughout the review, which makes me, inspired to watch the film itself for once. Keeping the review in mind, I am inclined to watch the rain in a new perspective, though it is playfully presented as a catastrophe directed invariably under the constraints prescribed by the nature. Fantasy takes wings, when we are acquainted with the schizophrenic plight of the cloud suffering from the pangs of her unhappy affair. The powerful reliability of the mountain and the imagination that it fathers the cloud is to be appreciated.

With the adequate number of characters, the portrait presented is nothing less than a new world of fantasy which gives an impact of a dream.
